Inspire & empower a life well lived
With a name & purpose derived from 'Viva la Vida' and ‘Una vida bien Vivida’ (‘live life’, and ‘life well lived’ in Spanish), Vivida Lifestyle was initially founded by David Harris-Burland as a purely passion-driven project rooted in adventure, water, connection and wellbeing, serving as a reminder and daily inspiration to live life to the fullest - always striving to find connection to and appreciation for the natural wonders that surround us, and are inside us.
“Vivida Lifestyle brings you back to yourself - it’s a shell and foundation that connects you to people on a journey. It’s a forum of conscious people.”
— H.K. Topping (Investment Banker, Adventurer)
For us, to live a life well-lived is to live a life with purpose and connection; connection to adventure, freedom, balance, the planet, others and oneself. This is the Vivida Lifestyle. This is our north star and underpins everything we do.
But how do you live your Vivida Lifestyle?
There is no single answer. It is personal, evolving and unique to each of us. But as a community, we often find ourselves returning to three interconnected, powerful ideas: the healing power of Water, the principle of Flow State, and embracing the empowering beauty of impermanence.
“One of the real beauties of watersports, is that it really keeps you in the moment. It allows you to really appreciate that life is really dynamic; it's not static. Moments come, and if you don't take advantage of those moments, that opportunity might not come again.”
— T. Wells
Water is what connects us. We are all made of water, and it moves through every living thing. It rises into clouds, falls to the earth, gathers in rivers and seas, and returns again — flowing through its endless cycle, just as it flows through us.
It is ancient and alive. Constantly moving, constantly renewing, constantly connecting. In its boundless nature, water offers infinite possibilities for movement, freedom and creativity — carving landscapes, softening edges and shaping our inner worlds.
At Vivida, we believe that being near water nourishes not only the body but also the soul.
It reconnects us with nature. It brings us into the present moment. It reminds us that we are part of something vast, alive and ever-changing.
Whether you're a thrill-seeking surfer, a mindful wild dipper, or anything in between, connection with water deepens your connection to your own mind and body, to the here and now and to the world around you. Water’s healing power lies in its ability to remind us of the endless flow of possibilities, both within and beyond. As Han Fisher writes about in her article: Why I freeze my butt off, and you should too - Year-Round Wild Swimming in Cornwall, water is a gateway to your Flow State, a beautiful way to align your mind, body, and spirit.
Vivida is a state of mind — and, at its heart, a return to flow. But what is flow state?
Flow is the beautiful feeling of being completely absorbed in what you are doing. It is the place where attention, action and awareness begin to move as one — where effort becomes instinctive, the mind settles into the moment, and you feel fully alive in what you are doing.
It often arises when challenge and skill meet in harmony: when you are stretched, but not overwhelmed; focused, but not forced; deeply engaged in something that feels meaningful for its own sake.
You can read more about it in our article: Going with the Flow - What is Flow State and How to Achieve it?
When you’re in your flow, you’re living your Vivida Lifestyle. It might happen in the water - when you're catching a wave, learning a new trick, or wild swimming - but it reaches far beyond water or sport. Flow might also find you dancing, calling a rueda, writing, singing, filming, cooking, creating, moving through nature, laughing with friends, or losing yourself in something you love.
In flow, we return to the present. And the present is where we reconnect: with the rhythm of our own body, with the people around us, with nature, with creativity, and with something larger than ourselves.
When you’re in your flow, the connections you make with yourself, with others, and with the world around you naturally deepen as you’re in your highest state of awareness and acceptance.
This is why flow can be so powerful for our wellbeing. It does not ask us to escape life, but to enter it more completely. To come back to the moment. To feel the quiet alignment between mind, body and spirit. To remember that beneath the noise, there is a natural rhythm waiting for us.
And, as with all things in life, flow does not last forever. Its beauty lies partly in its impermanence — a reminder to notice the moments when we feel most alive, and to keep returning to the rituals, people and places that bring us back.
The Vivida Lifestyle is a celebration of impermanence — a call to recognise the fleeting beauty of each moment and live more fully because of it.
Life is always moving. Nothing is fixed. Who we are, what we feel, what we fear and what we dream of becoming are all in motion. Joy, pain, triumph, uncertainty and fear are temporary visitors. They arrive, they shape us, and they pass through.
This awareness can be deeply empowering. It reminds us that the present is not something to rush through on the way to somewhere else. It is where life is actually happening.
To embrace impermanence is to cherish the adventure, welcome the unknown and honour the dualities of life — dark and light, rain and rainbow, calm and storm, endings and beginnings. It reminds us that our achievements, relationships and most meaningful moments are not possessions, but living experiences that needs nurturing, gratitude, and a daily renewal of intention.
This impermanence invites us to follow our passions, to pursue dreams without hesitation, and to greet each day with an open heart. The Vivida Lifestyle isn’t about fearlessness but about recognising that fear itself is temporary. We move forward not in spite of it, but with it, feeling it and stepping into each experience wholeheartedly.
To live your Vivida Lifestyle is to honour each moment as it comes, to live boldly, and to appreciate life as it is—beautiful, transient, and filled with endless possibility. All we truly have is now, a fleeting, magnificent “now” that beckons us to love deeply, to connect genuinely, and to live brightly.
Acknowledging our mortality can profoundly enhance the way we live. Keeping death in focus can be an effective tool for living a life well-lived: it strips away illusions and societal pressures, sharpens our priorities and reminds us not to postpone the life we are here to live.
In the spirit of living fully and appreciating the beauty of the present, we invite you to read The Dash by Linda Ellis —a powerful reminder to treasure the “dash” that represents our gift of life.

— R. Gerhard
